About Us

Two MileHouse GAA was founded in 1887 and was known then as TwoMileHouse St. Auxilius GAA club. While the early years were lean, their first success was in 1925 when they were awarded the Tipperary Cup for winning the Junior Football League having defeated Kildangan in Newbridge.

Ten years later the club reached its first championship final, they won the game on the field of play but lost the title to Raheens following an objection, apparently one of the TwoMileHouse players had a pony in a gymkhana organised by a cricket club.

There was a long gap before the club reached their next championship final, they completed a double in 1979 winning the Junior C Championship defeating Robertstown 3-5 to 0-5 in Newbridge and topped the Div. 4 League.

Down the years the club used a variety of pitches- Dermott Murphy's, Valentines, Muldoons, Punchestown and Lar Lynch' s. In 1980 5 acres was acquired at Harristown Commons to establish a permanent home.

By 1984 the playing and dressing room facilities were finished, this huge undertaking was achieved through the hard work of volunteers and loyal friends of our cumman.Success at underage followed as many Bord na nOg finals were won thanks to the tremendous work from the dedicated mentors, they can be proud with the fact that hundreds of the next generations of our players have benefited from their generous contributions.

The Club has provided some outstanding players like Jimmy O'Connor of Mylerstown, TwoMileHouse. Jim played beside the famous Larry Stanley on the Kildare team that beat Galway in the 1919 All Ireland final.

The Tommy O' Hanlon book on Kildare GAA (1886 to 1975) states "By far and away the best player in the House was Dermot Murphy, one of the best of his time in any grade, Dermot was a native of Walterstown."

Timmy Dowd, former Kerry Footballer and winner of 3 senior All Irelands, 1984/5/6 played for TwoMileHouse in the 1993 to 1995 League and Championship seasons

TwoMileHouse men were also involved in the organisation at county level. Mr. T.P. Brophy of Herbertstown served as a County Board Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Leinster Council Representative from 1920 to 1925

Later in 1975 Tom (Tony) Keogh RIP of Oldtown also served as a Vice-Chairman and Treasurer from 1975 to 1981. Tony's allegiance was to St. Oliver Plunketts GAA teams (an amalgamation of Eadestown/Ballymore and TwoMileHouse GAA clubs)

Few men have given such marvellous service to the GAA for so many years as Tony Coyle, as a player, selector, team manager or club official, Tony was rewarded in 1986 as Kildare GAA Club Person of the Year.

Heartbreak in 1986 as TwoMileHouse were beaten on the double, first by Straffan after a replay of the Junior B Championship then by kill in the Div. 3 league final.

In 1992 TwoMileHouse gained promotion to Div. 2 and maintained their status which no doubt helped them to win the 1994 Junior A Championship for the first time beating Maynooth in Newbridge 2-8 to 0-8.

Ten years later TwoMileHouse won the Junior League and Championship. In 2005 for the first time in their history TwoMile House won the Minor B Championship, played in Newbridge on County Final day by beating Kilcullen on a score of 0-7 to 0-8.

In 2007 they reached the Junior A Championship final only to loose out to Ballykelly, 2-11 to 0-11.

Their present status in Div. 2 was achieved in 2008 as Div. 3 League winners over Rheban 2-10 to 1-6.

The clubs most noted players in recent times to play for Kildare at Minor, Under 21, Junior and senior levels are Maurice Colbert, Niall Browne, Shane Darcy, John Goff, Tadgh O'Neill, Robert Kennedy, Christopher Burke, Peter Kelly, Andy Tynan, Aidan Casey and William Burke.

The Club caters for 2 adult teams and 7 juvenile teams, our Minor and Under 21's are playing for St. Oliver Plunketts in the 2009 League and Championship.

Our Club has two official referees on the panel Derek McLoughlin and Fintan Barrett. Both men have officiated at County Finals and inter county games.

Our present Under 14 Feile squad have achieved more that most, particularly in 2008 when winning the County Senior Schools seven-a-side competition, the Senior School League and were beaten finalists in Div. 1 Under 13 County Final against Maynooth. They are presently in the ¼ final of the div. 1 League.

We wish the team and their mentors all the best in the upcoming All Ireland Feile.
